Byz-GOVAG
The official Byz-GOVAG logo: inspiration and symbolism.
The official logo of the Byz-GOVAG Research Programme © Olga Karagiorgou
The logo is inspired by the obverse of the molybdoboullon of Kosmas, patrikios and komes of the God-guarded imperial Opsikion (Dumbarton Oaks, BZS.1958.106.5609).
More specifically, the motif in the central disk on the obverse of the molybdoboullon of Kosmas has been replaced by a cruciform monogram with letters in the quarters of the cross that reads BYZ-GOVAG.
Thus, together with the circular inscription along the circumference of the molybdoboullon of Kosmas the legend on the obverse now reads: "Θεοτόκε βοήθει Byz-GOVAG" since the good outcome of any Research Project - let alone a Byzantine one - requires the intercessory powers of Theotokos!
Credit goes to Nikos Valasiadis for his exceptional graphic rendering of the logo across all subsequent versions.
