Curriculum Vitae

Melpomeni Perdikopoulou is a researcher in Byzantine and Ottoman archaeology, specialising in digital humanities, GIS mapping, and archival research, and a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Theology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She completed her PhD in 2022 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a dissertation on the Alaca Imaret, drawing on Ottoman archival sources such as vakıfnames and muhasebe defterleri alongside architectural and digital reconstruction methods. She currently holds a postdoctoral research position at the School of Theology, AUTH, and academically coordinates a continuing education programme on Ottoman Thessaloniki (KEDIVIM/ELKE, AUTH). Her work integrates GIS mapping, archival research, 3D digital reconstruction, and sensory heritage methodologies, with a long-term research focus on Ottoman imaret studies and Balkan heritage.

Within Byz-GOVAG, she contributes to the Numismatic Museum of Athens component of the project, working on the museum's collection of Byzantine lead seals (molyvdovoulla). Her work involves bibliographic review and the compilation of entries from K. M. Konstantopoulos's 1917 catalogue of Byzantine lead seals into the Museum's master Excel inventory database — transcribing details such as issuer, date, geographic attribution, findspot, and prior publications, and applying established sigillographic citation conventions (Schlumberger, Konstantopoulos) to each entry.

Research interests: Ottoman imaret studies, Balkan heritage, digital humanities, Byzantine sigillography, archival and architectural history of Ottoman welfare institutions.
